1,500 orphans, less privileged benefit from Huawei charity project

No fewer than 1,500 orphans and less privileged in Nigeria at the weekend benefited from Huawei charity project.

The kind gesture by Huawei, one the leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions providers in the country was part of their strong corporate social responsibility to the Nigerian society and in solidarity with Children and the less privileged around the country.

About 300 children from several orphanages in Nigeria converged in Abuja at the weekend to participate in this year’s Christmas celebration organized by Huawei in partnership with NUNGTSO Charity Foundation(NCF).

Speaking during the event , Mr. Osita Iweze, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Abuja Office, said the event which was solely supported by Huawei was coming for the 3rd year running as a symbol of the company’s commitment to the community especially during the Christmas celebration.

Earlier this year in June, he informed that Huawei and NCF organized a Happy Children’s Day celebration in Abuja for about 200 orphans.

NUNGTSO charity Foundation, according to its founder Mrs. Evang Jerusha Danladi Kifasi, has established a strategic partnership with Huawei since 2010 to support the local community.

Kifasi disclosed that 12.5 million naira has been donated by Huawei so far and more than 1,500 orphans and the less privileged have benefited from this kind behavior.

Mr. Osita Iweze said supporting local community was one of Huawei’s global CSR strategies. Besides this, Huawei is also committed to bridging the digital divide in Nigeria by providing more than 5,000 training opportunities to telecom engineers and by setting up the ICT scholarship in University of Lagos.

It would be recalled that Technology transfer is another key CSR strategy and a 1,000 girls training program is being implemented by Huawei.

As an ICT solutions provider, Huawei entered the Nigerian market 16 years ago and has added consistent and continuous value to the local telecoms and ICT market since then.

Before now, Huawei has been the preferred ICT solutions provider in Nigeria with leading market share.
